Rakuzen @ The Starling

This is a Japanese restaurant located within The Starling Mall in Uptown Damansara area of Petaling Jaya. The restaurant setup is simple and nicely done. Their menu selections are relatively wide. The Atlantic Flounder Fish Bento Set is great and recommended. Also enjoyed their Spicy Zosui Beef. This dish is recommended too. Their Mango Stamina and Salmon Carpaccio are interesting. Enjoyed both the dishes too. Food portions are reasonable. Free flow of Matcha Green tea is available. Service is fast and professional. Cleanliness is good. The Starling Mall provides clean public washrooms. Adequate handicapped facilities are also provided by Starling Mall. Handicapped patrons on wheelchairs can patronize this restaurant easily. Prices are reasonable. Cash, e-wallet and credit card payments are accepted here. There is a large carpark within the mall. Roadside parkings are also available.

Rakuzen at The Starling Mall serves delicious Japanese cuisine in a comfortable environment. The sashimi is fresh and beautifully presented, with generous cuts that melt in your mouth. Their sushi rolls are well-balanced and flavorful, and the grilled dishes—especially the salmon and unagi—are rich, smoky, and satisfying. The bento sets offer great variety and value, perfect for lunch or dinner. Every dish feels thoughtfully prepared, with attention to detail and authentic taste. Highly recommended for anyone craving quality Japanese food in a cozy, elegant setting. The ambiance is calm and minimalist, great for a quiet lunch or dinner. Service was generally polite, though a bit slow during peak hours. Prices are on the higher side, but the quality mostly justifies it.

Good food and service, as expected of Rakuzen. Head Chef Ah Fai from Kura is brought in to manage the restaurant after the previous chef left and service level dropped. Good to see Rakuzen standard is back under Ah Fai.

Convenient location. Very popular during lunch hour as they have a good selection of lunch sets. Food is tasty and presentation is appetizing. Service wait time is reasonable when running full during peak times. You could say pricing is on the high side, considered acceptable with current cost of ingredients.

Get the seats overlooking the park, it's the best ones in the house. I like the overall ambience of the outlet. The food is tasty, and the desserts are even more so. Definitely will be my new Japanese haunt. Price per head is around RM30-50 per head, and to me it's fine for a treat once in a blue moon.

We have not been back for about a year. Rakuzen has improved or updated their menu and now there are more vegetarian, fish and beef options. For my niece it was great as she is vegetarian and does not like seaweed (hahaha) We are glad overall it has improved 1. Better japanese rice 2. Chawan mushi no longer fishy 3. Grilled Atlantic Flounder salted done well 4. Teppanyaki beef good 5. Garlic fried rice good but cld bd fluffier 6. Grilled squid improved nice and crisp and fragrant 7. Hotate mentai good. 8. Unagi cld be improved. Staff service was very attentive and good. We had about 12 pax. They can hold up to 20 pax comfortably. We just think the outlet may not hv enough wait or kitchen staff thats why sometimes quality drops. We were there mid week so all the cooked dishes were great. Keep improving and we will return.
